A few years ago when it was announced that Skinless had been signed to Relapse Records, I remember my exact reaction being; "Really?!?!" Their debut effort, Progression Towards Evil, while having a few pretty funny intros, really didn’t offer much of interest musically, the album was pretty straight-forward and flat, and was very different from the majority of the bands the label were signing at the time. I was skeptical about how they’d do on a major label, but figured I’d give them a chance, so when their Relapse debut, Foreshadowing Our Demise, came out, I was a little surprised to hear they were still rather uninspired, unoriginal and unimpressive. Then, in 2003, they announced that they’d recruited drummer John Longstretch (ex-Cephalic Carnage, Origin), while I wasn’t a huge fan of his work in Origin, I figured he’d at least be a major step up behind the kit, and was hopeful that their next full length, From Sacrifice To Survival, would prove to be their major break-out album. Three strikes and Skinless still suck. I’ve read so many reviews in so many magazines praising this album as being highly innovative and a major step up. When I listen to the CD and read the reviews, I wonder just how high these people are. While I’ll admit the drumming has improved immeasurably, the songs themselves are still flatter than Debra Messing’s chest (although truth be known, even without knockers, I’d still poke her in ways even I haven’t begun to imagine yet). The music has slowed down a fair bit, with more emphasis being put on… what I’m not entirely sure. The music is just very monotone and trancelike, trying to stay awake while listening to From Sacrifice To Survival is like trying to make peanut butter by violently cockbanging a bag of walnuts, it’s just not going to happen, and will more than likely leave you feeling tired, sore and pretty silly. I just really don’t understand how Skinless do it, live they are among the top 5 most entertaining bands I’ve ever seen, and one of the very few bands I’d gladly pay to see, but on CD they’re the most god-awful piece of shit band next to Six Feet Under. If you own this album, enjoy it, and are offended by this review, I suggest you tell your lover, Earl, to remove his thighs from around your ears when the album is playing and actually listen to it. If you still think its great, chances are you’re in shock from pain and dickdeep in a bag of walnuts. I strongly urge you to see them live, buy their t-shirts and support them, just don’t punish yourself by buying any of their CDs. If you’re seriously that desperate for punishment I can just stick the barrel of a potato launcher in your rectum and pull the trigger.
