From the ashes of Australia’s Damaged, Terrorust has arisen. Post Mortal Archives sees the return of Skitz and Jaymi to the Damaged fold, and represents a re-embracing of the elements that made Damaged so great, while crafting a musical approach more in the death metal vein than their earlier grind roots.

So how does Terrorust perform? Fortunately, they’re just as fulfilling as when I listened to these two players back in the days of Damaged. While the signature erratic drumming is a bit more restrained, and Jaymi isn’t always blasting lyrics like a belt-fed artillery gun, those familiar elements of Damaged‘s glory days are nevertheless still visible, intact, and pleasing to the metal listening ear. The riffs are easy to delve into without being remotely friendly and they rarely ever suffer from moments of staleness. If anything, Terrorust is a lot more structured and matured in comparison to its Damaged origins. Had the interim period of inactivity not occurred, it would be easy to see Damaged making a gradual develop to this territory one way or another.

Sure, it’s not purely identical to Damaged, but there’s enough holdover from those classic days to thrill the old school fans. And the new, more structured death metal sound is more than enough to grab the attention of everyone else.
