Originally I remember this group being strictly a gabber project very akin to such speedcore groups as Delta 9, DOA and Nasembluten. I always dug their remix of Deicide’s "Once Upon The Cross" and the Morbid Angel tracks on the Hellspawn CD Earache released. I’m not really sure when this Australian band started doing the sound they are doing now, but I definitely like it. The Berzerker mix a gabber/noise sound with a grindy death metal sound to create a loud-as-fuck and very violent album. Don’t mix this band up with Slipknot. Yeah, they wear funny masks, but they are just plain out a much better band. Songs like "95" and "Ode To Nash" are pure noise pieces that are quite hypnotic, so if you really can’t get into such things it could be a major turn off. Live they have a drummer, but on CD I am pretty sure all the drums are programmed. Unlike other bands that incorporate a drum machine into their sound, The Berzerker do a damn fucking good job. I have always had just a small place in my heart for bands who use such A Method, Godflesh and Mysticum in particular. This is a killer release that Earache should be proud to have graced us with. I mean, for fuck sake, it’s better than a lot of the other trash they were putting out for a while. If you like mosh riffs speed, and are able to handle a drum machine pounding at your brain, this may be for you. If you really can’t handle something this avant garde, go jerk it to a Dying Fetus record or something.
