Australian goregrinders The Day Everything Became Nothing are back with their fourth studio effort, Brutal and the release definitely lives up to it’s title. Brutal is 10 tracks of axe swinging, head smashing, blood splattering slow-paced catchy goregrind in the vein of Cock And Ball Torture with the guttural pitch shifted vocals of Last Days Of Humanity.
Like previous efforts from The Day Everything Became Nothing Brutal is a relentless chuggernaut with thick meaty bass lines, simple catchy grooving riffs and an infectious simple drumming pattern that will make even the most terrible air drummer capable of keeping rhythm with the album’s 10 crushing slabs of brutality. The album is so straight forward even the song titles are simply named 1 through 10 in the order they appear on the effort.
While not greatly original The Day Everything Became Nothing do provide something very few goregrind acts provide nowadays; consistency. I know exactly what to expect every time I put in a new The Day Everything Became Nothing release; slow to mid-paced brutal simplistic and catchy as fuck no frills goregrind. They aren’t going to overwhelm with blazing solos and breakneck speed blasting like latter Last Days Of Humanity, they’re just going to slowly and methodically smash your face with thick grooves.
I’ve heard all four studio efforts by this band and they have yet to disappoint. This is a perfect addition to any goregrind fan’s collection, especially those who are big fans of The Day Everything Became Nothing’s previous efforts. For those of you who are into slow catchy old school death metal but are looking for something a little more “brutal” than look no further than Brutal. Yet another killer slab of down tuned, snail’s pace goregrind!
