The Ruins of Beverast “Foulest Semen of a Sheltered Elite”

The Ruins Of Beverast
Foulest Semen of A Sheltered Elite

Genre:Atmospheric Black/Doom MetalFormat:CDTracks:10
Label:Ván RecordsYear:2009

It’s not often that I hear an album that seems to defy categorization. Foulest Semen Of A Sheltered Elite is one of them. The name of the artist is The Ruins Of Beverast, and if you haven’t heard of them, it’s time you did. I have not let a day pass without listening to this album in its entirety at least once over the last few weeks. Did you enjoy Aeternus…And So The Night Became? How about Disembowelment‘s Transcendence Into The Peripheral? Well, Foulest Semen Of A Sheltered Elite, among other things, combines elements of these 2 brilliant releases and adds its own dark twist.

What really boggles the mind is that The Ruins of Beverast is ONE GUY. I have tried to write classical music and various compositions for years, and to achieve what this album achieves is quite a feat. Foulest Semen Of A Sheltered Elite is sheer genius. It is easily THE best album I’ve heard in over 10 years. It combines droning, doom/black guitar passages, samples, clear vocals, and an atmosphere almost unrivaled in the current metal scene. The growls and screams on this recording are powerful to say the least, and the clear vocals are more than tolerable; they add a much-needed diversity to the album’s sound.

I’m including one of the songs in this review to give you a glimpse of what you are in for when you hear this. It’s called “Mount Sinai Moloch” and it’s a fucking monster! By the way, at the end of this track, the clear vocals are saying: “In profane and moribund solitude, thou shall vegetate.” Haha! That’s fucking brilliant! If you don’t get it by the riff at 4:21 into the song, just turn it off, slap on any various grind CD and enjoy listening to some 1-minute songs with about as much depth as a puddle… and go fuck yourself, too, lover-boy.

One thing I noticed about this recording is I can’t remember the last time I haven’t had to adjust the EQ on my music player. The album is recorded flawlessly. Unarguably the best release of 2009. Fuck that, the best release of the past few years, easily. This stuff makes me want to stop writing and playing music. I can’t fathom competing with this kind of artistic genius. Absolutely essential.

This Album Is...
Essential
Mandatory! A Must Own Release!

I was going to post an audio sample, but all of their songs are a week long.

This album is really great. I’ve been listening to black metal, dark ambient and doom metal for quite some time now, over 10 years and this one is THE BEST ONE ARTISTICALLY when it comes to atmosphere and feeling of extremity. Arcane Pharmakon Messiah lyrics ARE PURE POETRY!!

Anyway I’ve made a video for Mount Sinai Moloch. Check it out, I think it’s a good mix.

Direct-link to the file on my page, then. I already encoded it as VBR and uploaded it. Here:

I won’t ever delete it if you don’t want to store it on your server.

I’ll have to check this. Maybe there is some black metal I’ll like here. How do the other two albums compare?

They’re both pretty good, but they are a lot more “typical” black metal-sounding. They are really good releases, but the recording on this album doesn’t even sound like the same band, comparatively. In other words, the other two full lengths are lo-fi.

It’s the old drummer of Nagelfar (GER) by the way.

For you or anyone who’s into unique compositions check out Harry Partch’s Delusion of the Fury. He created his own musical world by making his own instruments. They are amazing works of art and sound. He believed that the conventional scale of 12 notes was a needless constraint. His scale has 42 notes (microtones). You can watch the Delusion performance on youtube. It sounds amazing with a sub. He has a gigantic Marimba with some serious low tones.

Excellent, I’m excited to check this out. That Harry Partch stuff sounds awesome as well.

On a side note there’s this death metal book coming out, it looks like its gonna be the Get In The Van of death metal books, mainly lots of old pictures, its called Glorious Times 1984-1991. I think I was 1-8 years old during that time period, always wish I had some cousins or neighbors into death metal so I would have gotten into it earlier instead of going through the traditional Fat Boys – MC Hammer – Vanilla Ice – Great White – AC/DC – Guns N Roses – Motley Crue – Metallica – Prong – Pantera – Slayer – Cannibal Corpse – Symphonies of Sickness long haul process of discovering the underground.

Now this is some amazing shit right here especially for a one man band, are their previous releases any good and worth buying as well also Disembowelment’s – Transcendence into the Peripheral is not only one of my most favorite Doom Metal albums its also one of my favorite albums of all time. Has anyone ever heard of the Bulgarian band Darkflight they also play Atmospheric Black Doom Metal.

Thanks for sharing the Ruins with us, Damian.

Just for the sake of logic, did you hear this album? And stop defending Damian. Teufel I know you got your lips around his cock, but he is a grown up man, its time to let go and move on. And you don’t need to cover up for the douche bag’s own faults. Next time he fucks up, leave his idiocy for display rather than deleting it.

He doesn’t defend me. He’s actually a total asshole to me. In fact, he often IM’s me random insults and then logs off before I can respond.

And I’m not a “grown up man” (redundancy check?) by any means.

Boa… aside from the obviously phallic choice of a nickname, your mother should have swallowed you. The only reason why you ever made it to your mother’s egg is because your dad’s sperm count was so low, you didn’t have any competition. Natural selection can only work if it has something to select from.

Now unpause your Avenged Sevenfold CD and shut the fuck up.

I don’t need to defend Damian, he can suck his own dick. I know, I’ve watched him. It’s pretty impressive seeing how a guy his size able fit his cock and balls into his own mouth…

It’s a lot easier to suck someone else’s cock and balls, though. That’s why I do it… ’cause I’m not just gay, I’m lazy too.
