They:Swarm is a Tel Aviv, Israel-based death grind act, formerly known as Whorecore, that features Aborted front man Sven de Caluwe and Lehavoth’s Nir Doliner and Evil Haim. The Mundane Corruption is the band’s only release before Sven and guitarist Eran Segal parted ways with the band and they returned to the Whorecore name. So, long story short, They:Swarm is Sven de Caluwe and his Jewish Superfriends from Whorecore!
The Mundane Corruption consists of five tracks of intense, catchy, albeit not very original, death grind, plus an intro track featuring audio samples from the hilarious Guy Ritchie flick Snatch (if you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favor and go pick it up, fucking awesome movie!). The material has a strong Aborted sound to it, so much so that if you didn’t know better you’d probably assume this was a new Aborted release. To be fair, there are some differences between the music of Aborted and They:Swarm. Aborted is a much more straightforward brutal death metal act, whereas They:Swarm is death grind fused with death metal and deathcore and the end result is surprisingly good.
The five tracks contained on this release are well played, solidly produced and catchy enough that it’ll get your head banging and fist pounding. The band consists of six members; a drummer, two guitarists, a bassist and two vocalists (the secondary vocals provided by Whorecore front man Tomer Jones) and the overall sound is pretty powerful.
They:Swarm will definitely appeal to die hard fans of Aborted, as well as fans of death grind and deathcore. As I said, it’s not very original, but it’s performed very well and there’s enough groove and aggression to make it a worthwhile listen. If you want to check it out, the band currently have the entire release available for streaming on their MySpace page and I’d recommend checking it out before they take it down or replace it with something else. November 16th, 2008 at 8:09 pm Is Whorecore’s Protection album any good, does it sound like this EP.
November 18th, 2008 at 1:22 pm The Protection album (the one released before Sven joined the club and fucked everyone with his Aborted stick) is way better in my opinion. Uncompromising death-grinding brutality. You should definitely look it up.
