The fuck? Hell just fucking froze over. No, I’m god damn serious: this album is the seventh seal of the Apocalypse. It’s a fucking side project of dudes from Amorphis, Ajattara, and H.I.M., yet it’s actually decent grind. Reread that if you need to, I just did several times. Some of the worst acts in Finland (well, one of which was formerly good) actually produced a decent, catchy grind act. Jesus, next you know Slipknot will release a technical death metal album in the vein of Obscura… wait, I’m just going to shut up or fate might actually try to fuck with reality and kill all common logic.

As said, To Separate the Flesh from the Bones is a grind side project of H.I.M. and Amorphis. They’re somewhat in the vein of a more groove-laced contemporary Rotten Sound mixed with elements of Sweden’s Jigsore Terror. The band even tries to pull off the Ghoul gimmick of trying to hide their identity (complete with black cloths over their head; actually, they end up looking like really confused KKK members that way, whereas Ghoul’s bloodied potato sacks actually come across as fucked-up mental patients that escaped into the countryside and started eating/raping corpses). But sweet god is the grind fast and fulfilling. It pummels and fucking flies right through the skull. They even have a guest appearance by Jeff Walker of Carcass, but Herr’s vocals are so Carcass influenced, that it’s hard to tell where Jeff Walker kicks in. That doesn’t matter though, songs like "Drowned in Semen" stand on their own enough to make To Separate the Flesh from the Bones a worthy listen. The groove definitely works and keeps Utopia Sadistica interesting, but the overall sound is nowhere near as brutal as countrymen Rotten Sound, much less as fulfilling as Sweden’s Nasum. However, To Separate the Flesh from the Bones is hardly boring and is worth a good few listens. Jesus, how the fuck did these guys get involved in such shitty day-jobs? Written By: Necro-tron
