While I’m admittedly not a big fan of France’s death metal scene, I don’t have many bad things to say about their undergrind scene, as they’ve spurt out several quality acts including Sublime Cadaveric Decomposition, Gronibard and Blockheads. The name Ultra Vomit can now be added to the top of that list. Ultra Vomit spew forth 28 tracks of savage brutal death metal/goregrind with plenty of goofy intros, thick meaty riffs, drum kit smashing blasts and a wide range of vocals. The songs are generally under 2 minutes in length and are pure gory fun, with really goofy song titles like "Brutally Brutalized", "Captain Igloo" and "I Like To Vomit". Musically the album is strange blend of Cock And Ball Torture, Gronibard, Inhumate and Leng Tch’e. The songs are all ridiculously catchy, even with all of the goofy extras going on throughout the tracks with short meaty chug riffs, solid steady beats with a mix of clean brutal death metal barks, pitch shifted growls, weird Gronibard-ish shrieks and clean French-punkthrash yells. Not only is the album hilarious, with plenty of tongue-in-cheek moments, it’s also one of the heaviest and most crushing pieces of music you’re likely to come across. The Japanese version on Obliteration Records includes an additional six songs in the same vein. If you really feel like being special, you can get the limited edition that comes with an Ultra Vomit t-shirt and toothbrush. This is a must own for any true fan of ultra heavy goregrind. Not only was this album re-issued on one of the best underground labels, Obliteration, it was also given a great review by the most respected goregrind zine, Braindead, so if you don’t believe me, listen to Pierre. This is definitely an album for people who like to vomit, vomit, do you like to vomit, vomit? I like to vomit, vomit… VOMIT! Big thanks to Paulo from Copremesis for introducing me to this band!
