When I first heard that Razorback Records were putting together a tribute to Impetigo the first thought that came to mind was "Impetigo sucked, why would anyone want to pay tribute to them?", then I heard that Last Days Of Humanity, Vampiric Motives, Machetazo and Impaled recorded covers and I decided to at least give the tribute a shot. The album is long, 28 songs spanning over 70 minutes of bands paying homage to their deathmetal/grindcore idols and, surprisingly enough, it’s pretty damn good. As with any compilation or tribute album, the CD does contain a number of really weak songs such as Mortician’s monotonously stupid cover of "Cannibal Lust", Exhumed’s irritating cover of "Cannibal Apocalypse", Deceased’s pitiful version of "Dis-organ-ized", Blood’s lackluster recording of "Wizard Of Gore", Japan’s Gore Beyond Necropsy’s completely muddied cover of "Jane Fonda Sucks", Lividity’s painfully average sound to the music of "Bloody Pit Of Horror" and Wadge’s retarded cover of "Venereal Warts/The Belch", which is little more than two belches with blast beats over a short 5 second sound sample. Since I have established that one quarter of the album is horrid, what can be said about the other three quarters? A lot of things which don’t include a description involving "sucks". Highlights are numerous including covers by the Deranged side project Murder Corporation, Razorback’s own Machetazo, Germany’s Sanitys Dawn, Georgia’s Vastion, Engorged, Morgue and Japan’s Clotted Symmetric Sexual Organ (C.S.S.O.). I was slightly disappointed by the covers by Vampiric Motives (formerly Catasexual Urge Motivation) and Last Days Of Humanity however. Both tracks are good, just not as good as I was expecting. Impaled’s cover of "I Work For The Streetcleaner" is decent, but what really makes the track worth listening to is the sound clip at the beginning of the song. It is the damn funniest clip I’ve ever heard on any album, I continuously replay the song just for the intro "No! I am the baddest motherfucker you ever saw man!" Australia’s Intense Hammer Rage, who will be releasing a CD on Razorback Records shortly, are simply pummeling in their cover of "Defiling The Grave", and I already am greatly anticipating the release of their debut. There is one song on this album that makes this album a must buy and that is Cock And Ball Torture’s cover of "Red Wigglers". I have honestly listened to the song at least two hundred times since I got the album a few months back and it simply does not get tiring. The brutality displayed on the song is unparalleled, simply forwarding to the track and pressing play causes gurgles and screams to emanate from every orifice on my being as my body goes into uncontrollable thrashing, causing massive mosh pits to form around me… okay, so maybe it’s just me going crazy and running into things, but still, the song is SICK! While I damn Billy for punishing my eardrums with the horridness of Relapse’s convention of crappiness, I must thank him greatly for helping me find out about great bands I’d never heard of before. Obviously this album will be a must-have for fans of Impetigo, however even non-fans will find a lot to their liking with this release. A must buy!
