With what has to be one of the most hyped albums of 2003, Vital Remains teams up with Glen Benton on vocals to release what is quite possibly the most mediocre album of the year. Everything I’ve read about this record indicated that the vocals were going to be something that we weren’t going to believe; we were going to be shocked. What we got was Glen Benton spouting off the same old anti-christian crap that we’ve heard now for like 15 years. Are the vocals any better than what Deicide has produced in recent years? Absolutely. Should we be impressed with this? Fuck no. What if I told you that vocals on the new Six Feet Under record were fucking amazing? Would you go buy it? If you answered that question yes, please do us all a favor and just kill yourself.
The musicianship on this album is top notch, but there’s hardly anything memorable to it as it serves as nothing more than a platform for Benton’s played out lyrics and some occasional slick guitar solos which are easily the highlight of the album. So whether you like this boring piece of dog dung or not, please just do me the favor of not talking about it anymore.
