Vomit The Soul “Apostles of Inexpression”

Vomit The Soul
Apostles of Inexpression

Genre:Brutal Death MetalFormat:CDTracks:8
Label:Unique Leader RecordsYear:2009

If you heard that a band had named itself after an old Cannibal Corpse song, what would your reaction be?  Take a moment.  Personally, I had no reaction because I didn’t make the connection until many listens.  There is no Cannibal Corpse worship here.  The only forced connection I could make is that the bass playing could be considered similar to Alex Webster’s.  Speaking of which, you can actually hear the bass playing very clearly.  We all know that the bass is often buried in the mix or too muddy to properly cut through.  Can you hear the record skipping?

I am very impressed by the production on this album.  It has the clarity and punch that I don’t always have to have, but for Vomit The Soul’s style of metal it fits together like my hand and cock.  This is the way new school death metal should sound.  With the sickest of execution these Italian’s blend blasting, breakdowns, mid-pacing, grunts, squeals, growls, and just about anything else you could expect from a modern sounding death metal band.  They are not technical on the whole, but there are shades.  Basically, these dudes have exercised great taste.  Some may have a problem with the number of breakdowns.  To you I say, “Suffocation” and “Fuck off.”

Apostles of Inexpression is one of those rare albums that can hold a spot on my little bitch of an ipod (2GB) for months while I’m constantly updating it with new shit almost daily (I have summers off).  This album is also a rarity in that it makes me feel like dancing like a black man.  The last time this happened was when I was first listening to Benighted’s Icon.  I would have been doing the Kid N’ Play kick-step had another like-minded individual been in the vicinity.  The way Vomit The Soul combine so many elements so tastefully doesn’t come along too often.  Unless you only listen to “real” death metal, you might want to get with this ASAP.

This Album Is...
Excellent
Highly Recommended! Buy This!

Actually, there is one band who I can think of that has a Cannibal Corpse song for a name, Through the Eyes of the Dead.

check out some Slagmaur, completely different, hell you might hate it but i think its unsettling in a way most metal bands have given up on

I checked them out. I have never been into black metal because of bands just like them. Good for you if you dig that shit, but I would rather make sweet love to your grandmother than listen to one more millisecond of Slagmaur.

Woah, thats a sick cover art and I’ve definitely seen covers like this floating around many times. Reminds me of Seagrave

Boring album. They have skill, but they lack direction. If they don’t find their own style they will fade in the mist of death metal mediocrity.

You should contribute some reviews. You’re simply the best, better than all the rest.

Sarcasm eh? I am not better than anyone else. I am just critical that’s all.

I wasn’t sarcastic about the first statement. I would probably have a lot of fun with a review written by the likes of you. Good detective work on the second bit Encyclopedia Brown.

Vomit The Soul is a four man piece offering a brutal slap of death metal. And although this is release builds up from their previous offering “Portraits of Inhuman Abominations”, yet fails to deliver anything refreshing. Let’s be honest, brutal death metal isn’t exactly the most prestigious death metal variant, and while it is energetic and ruthless by nature, it fails to develop past that mark. Vomit The Soul are a prime example of this rule.” Apostles of Inexpression” is technically a proficient album that super exceeds its basic definition of “brutal death metal” but it still pretty must sounds like 90% of brutal death metal found today.

What certainly cannot be taken away from “Vomit The Soul” is their brutal composition, when offered to listen their newest work, one is bombarded by a wall of sound so powerful that it would certainly force elders to shit in their pants on command. Everything on this record adds up to create a crushing atmosphere, even though it is an predictable song build up, but none the less still impressive. There are good moments on this record where you feel like the level of musicianship is elevating or the composition is hitting a critical note, but these moments are few in between; herein lies the greatest problem with this offering. There is simply not enough here to give me a unique listening experience, I could have just listened to my collection of Deeds Of Flesh instead and would not have missed one single thing. Another thing which is extremely annoying are the vocals. Max is squealing, grunting, barfing and god knows what more, but in his effort he succeeds in sounding as generic as the music he plays on this album. Technicality is very much present here, but the execution is too fixated on a strict formula, so that anything that could have been innovative is left out of the equation.

I really want to like this, but the staggering faults are preventing me from enjoying this music to the fullest. Without a doubt this band is comprised of musicians of great caliber, but only in skill. What is missing is a distinct sound and style that can distinguish these guys from the rest of the pack.

            This album is…
            MEDIOCRE
Very “meh” not worth the money.

Boa Constrictus – no shit! Silky Bravado – find a blogspot with 1000 brutal death metal bands, listen to them all and then review this album again!

You guys should have reviews of shitty commenters.

Boa Constrictus likes to pretend he can write, criticize or be funny, e.g., the “hilarious” non-existent url he provides every time he posts.

    This commenter is…
    Blech!!!
Don’t read him, just hope his children are a victim of Munchhausen Syndrome.

Beef! Did your mother not teach you that animalism and Sodom are forbidden? :-/ But I will try to help you. I am sorry that the URl (www.Ahugedickupyourass.com) is fake, and I can understand your craving, it is not easy when your father took his liberties with you, molesting you every night and pretending to caress you while at the same time shoving his deformed and curved penis into your innocent tight anus. But I am sure I could redirect you to valid gay websites Beef, If you want to. I am just trying to be friendly here. :-)

Why would he pretend to caress me if he’s already molesting me? Who pretends to caress anyway? You are a silly goose.

It doesn’t take much thought to point out your stupidity. Now, I think I’ll go see if my father wants to pretend to give me a hand job.

Yes, he slammed his deformed dick into you, while pretending to caress you. The caressing was a cover up for his true intensions. He didn’t care about you. In fact he molded your personality, no doubt that the name “Beef” is a synonym to your fucked up childhood. It must scare you allot to be around girls, knowing that they don’t have a dick, well some do

This album is pretty decent everything that is except the very mediocre vocals.I was pretty intrigued as soon as I saw this album cover but when I got to listening to eat the vocals pretty much ruin the whole album because they scream Grindcore/Deathcore when the music sounds like death metal.
