Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, we have the new Vulgar Pigeons EP, Burning Episode. And I mean an eternity- this EP has been in the works for wait nearly seemed like the amount of time it took for the fucking Egyptians to build the great pyramids. But God damn, it was worth the wait.
Ignore the shitty art work and the half-assed Halls of Amenti-styled clear disc cd, because these San Francisco grinders are all substance and no gaudy show. This relatively short, 13 minute release has all the intense grinding you’d want to cram down your throat, vomit back into a bucket, and chow down all over again. And you’ll fucking love every vomit ridden, down-trodden, filthy minute of it. The music on here is very much in the vein of their Imperialism full-length, with the high end vocals screaming all over while the lower, rumbling guttural growls support the fucker, like the whore of Babylon ridding upon the Beast of the End Times. However, even with the sick west coast grind feeling you up like a 60 year-old paraplegic child molester, there are some parts on the EP where our vulgar heroes get a little groovy, messing with decently structured solos and some excellent bass work.
It’s definitely a great piece of grindcore action, though a little on the short side. In the wake of Circle of Dead Children’s Zero Comfort Margin, the extremely short length will disappoint some, but there’s a trade-off as this release doesn’t see as spastic a production job as the Circle of Dead Children release. If you’re a Vulgar Pigeons fan, this is definitely a great release to tide you over until Vulgar Pigeons finishes their next full length. Written By: Necro-tron
