Swooping in like a grinding…well a pigeon. The intro track is so good with the pigeon sounds and off kilter instruments. It’s somewhat cheesy but fits well with the vibe these lads bring to the table. For the most part I can’t stand intro-instrumental tracks but I’d be a complete liar if I said this particular one didn’t get me excited and hop up and down like a retard getting pumped for his 100 yard sprint at the Special Olympics. Willowtip is on a fucking roll with this new release. Tipton needs to head to Las Vegas; I bet he’d have a hot dice hand at the craps table. Although, it is not luck as Willowtip is becoming a true powerhouse with their recent releases and some highly anticipated releases in the future. They keep signing quality bands and this album is no exception to that statement. Vulgar Pigeons keep the listening somewhat brief, just under 26 minutes, and demolish everything in their path through 14 tracks. Quite a clusterfuck, I mean that in a good way, of an album with the seamless partnership of guitar, bass and drums pounding your head in like any good grind. I really enjoyed the slight use of humor showcased by such song titles as "Whitetrash Compactor", "Ghettoblaster" and "Attack of the Bullet Belt Committee". Too bad the lyrics are not included in the liner notes. The production is rough but pretty clear giving the drums a "kit falling apart feel." I envision the drummer flailing away as piece by piece of his set breaks apart. The short drum break on "Blot On Humanity", oh that’s good stuff, is totally unexpected and a nice touch to a great song. The guitar snakes and twists its way through various paths, never going down a boring one. Pissed, shouted vocals coalesce with sparse lower, gurgling backup vocals and perfectly match my rage after a shitty night at work. The whole album is not a full-on blastfest. They show their talent when they can slow the tempo, the tiniest bit slowed down, for a short time lulling you into a head nodding state, then like a shotgun blast to the nuts everything is violent again. Another great release from Willowtip and more importantly from Vulgar Pigeons. Throw out that new Suffocation record and get this album. Tipton will even throw in one of his pubes.
