Germany’s Wojczech have been around for more than 10 years, and this is their first, and only, full length studio effort. According to the band’s bio they are, and I quote "one of the most famous bands on the worldwide grind scene," which is an interesting statement considering I’ve been following the extreme music underground for the past 20 years and the first time I ever heard of them was when I flipped through their bio. I call shenanigans!
Bullshit in the band’s bio aside, Sedimente starts out on the right foot with a couple of really heavy and groovy sludge grind tracks. The riffs are simplistic, and the music is written in a punk style, down tuned to sound more like deathgrind, the drumming includes some decent blasting and an interesting three-vocal assault. Why then, does this album, with enough elements to be decent, turn into a steaming pile?
The problem, like most other bands that have a talented core but fail to deliver a solid offering, is completely shit songwriting. Basically it sounds like the band got into the recording studio, then forgot why they were there and quickly tore their way through 11 songs and got the fuck out of there. Clocking in at just under 24 minutes, I have shits that last longer than this album, and those are generally infinitely more satisfying, especially when I let loose a rumbling wet fart. I’m 30 years old and I still crack up every time I hear a wet fart bubbling out my sphincter like a volcanic eruption.
Unfortunately, while it seemed like Wojczech were on the verge of recording something half decent, by the time the album reaches the halfway point it’s obvious it’s going nowhere fast. This is by no means the worst album I’ve ever heard, I’ve heard much worse, but it just lacks replay value. The reverberations rumbling through my lower intestine, however, entertains me to no end. Pull my finger!
