Long awaited and much hyped, it seems WTN could have only disappointed in light of the advance buzz. Billy from Razorback promised a classic and fuck my face if he didn’t deliver. WTN are a 4-piece goregrind band from Singapore. They’ve waited 6 years for their first full CD while releasing splits with grind heavyweights like Squash Bowels, Ulcerrhoea and a delayed split with Haemorrhage. Some of the 7" tracks were re-recorded alongside new material for their debut CD release. The best gore bands know what Impetigo did for the genre and those that paid the closest attention to them seem to make the best grind. Carcass, Autopsy and even Bolt Thrower influences can be heard as WTN features a killer throwback gore vibe. There is a great raw and crusty DIY sound to WTN but all the instruments are heard with a slicing clarity and thickness. This is the perfect goregrind production to these ears. Creepy solos and well-placed fills make nice embellishments for the straight-ahead and catchy riffs. The leads are nauseating at times and sound like gas escaping from organs creating a disturbing swell and ooze that hits hard. Killer non-pitched vocals range from toilet gurgles to tortured screams, producing a great post-human zombie gore feel. The varied vocal arrangements and sounds keep things interesting throughout. The weirdness is stepped up on the closing 15-minute noise epic. This track may not get many repeat listens perhaps but it’s a great smoke-out piece with a long crescendo highlighted by some perfectly unsettling and dissonant acoustic guitar work. This is a big departure from the rest of the tracks where WTN shows great skill in moving from rolling groove to balls-out blast. It’s the strength of composition and arrangements that makes WTN rock but in ending the record with this piece you are reminded that it’s their ability to create a disturbing and horrific atmosphere that sets them above the pack. Fans of Repulsion, Dead Infection, Impetigo and good grind in general need to hear this. It’s an instant classic of goregrind and a record that should transcend the genre and appeal to fans of good raw metal in general. Spanish artist NOR, who did the Machetazo covers, delivers some great creepy art that fits the music perfectly. There is none of the kitschy humor that is witnessed on other Razorback’s releases for WTN. The original designs for NOR’s art were provided by singer Daemon which makes for the perfect compliment to their music. Mark Sawickis from Impetigo makes a killer cameo on the gore classic "I Work For The Street Cleaner". Highest recommendations for another great one from the Razorback Hive. Written By: Mr. Budd
