Death Thrash

  • The Haunted “The Haunted Made Me Do It”

"Catchy," uninventive well-produced Entombed-esque/Corporation 187-esque mildly -deathy thrash, interspersed with some occasional Rage Against The Machine-esque breakdowns, over which a standard Hypocrisy-esque vocals is used with some occasional In Flames-esque/ Danzig-esque vocalizations. "Cool"-esque serial killer pics, accoutrements and gun-store receipt make this a stunningly mediocre-esque release. This review is now over-esque.

  • The Haunted “The Dead Eye”

Remember the last album from The Haunted? If not, let me refresh your memory. Revolver was a half-assed attempt at recreating their first self-titled album and horribly missing the mark. Everything came out sub-par and the only quality parts of the album meet merely the delightful designation known as mediocre. All of the intense modern [...]

  • The Haunted “Revolver”

I’ll admit it. I’m a fan of The Haunted. Sure, they’re by no means impressive thrash and are hardly anywhere near the caliber of the band that spawned them (At The Gates), but The Haunted Made Me Do It and One Kill Wonder both had some excellent tunes on them. Couple that with Marco Aro’s [...]

  • The Crown “Possessed 13″

When I first heard the news that Johan Lindstrand left The Crown shortly after the release of Deathrace King, my reaction was something similar to this: (in girlish shriek) "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!" In my eyes, Deathrace King was by far one of the best releases of 2000, and one of the best death-thrash releases in a [...]

  • The Dying Light “The Killing Plan”

The first time I listened to New York-based blackened death metallers The Dying Light’s Willowtip Records debut The Killing Plan I was less than impressed by what I heard. After letting the disc sit on my desk and collect dust for a few months I decided to shake off the cobwebs and give it [...]

  • The Dying Light “Survival Guide To The Apocalypse”

Even though I’m so god damn hung over right now from shotting whiskey last night and I had only one beer in the fridge for my breakfast drink, this album makes me wanna jump up and down on my bed and scream "HAIL SATAN YOU ABONIMABLE LORD OF THE SULPHUR FILLED ABYSS!!!" while raising my [...]

  • The Crown “Hell Is Here”

Fans may remember this Swedish band’s older material, while under the moniker of Crown Of Thorns, The Burning and Eternal Death released on Black Sun Records. Under this name the band was a much darker act, somewhat along the lines of fellow Swede legends At The Gates. With the slight name change, and [...]

  • The Crown “Deathrace King”

Last year, when Sweden’s The Crown released Hell Is Here, I found the band I had once followed when they were Crown Of Thorns had greatly changed. While I wasn’t totally approving of their change, I did find some merit to their new brand of death-thrash, however felt it could use some fine tuning. [...]

  • The Crown “Crowned Unholy”

Though I may not be the first to do it, let me say to The Crown; thank you and fuck you! Thank you for putting out two of my favorite death metal releases in Deathrace King and Possessed 13 and fuck you for being such utter wankers for one minute saying "We’re back together [...]

  • The Absence “From Your Grave”

Earlier this year, I was standing inside a local bar/club discussing metal with a good friend of mine. From there these two near identical scenester fellows decided to quiz us on our metal tastes and a near multi-hour epic argument was launched on who was better, Judas Priest or Iron Maiden, and the two scenesters [...]
